Valentin Uzunov
ABSTRACT
The straight body cast to handstand is one of the most fundamental skills on bar, its mastery is vital in order to progress to advanced bar skills. However as a skill on its own it is nothing more than conditioning exercises on bars. Its true application is in the connections to the kip. In order to be able to connect the two skill effectively its highly beneficial to being able to perform the straight body cast individually. The purpose of this article is to introduce a method for teaching and developing the straight body cast to handstand, which can be eventually connected to the kip. This method is a long term progressional process that can begin at any age and it assumed to take 1-2years. The greatest difficulty with this skill is to develop the neccessary strength level for the gymnast to be able to perfom the skill independently. Thus effective conditioning exercises and a well strucutured conditioning approach is critital to the development of this skill.
